Mechanical FlipBook “Magic”
We created this Deluxe Triptych FlipBook for a holiday present. Had fun building this & quite pleased with how this turned out.

Much fun was had exhibiting the Mechanical Flipbooks at this year’s Kinetica Art Fair. We met lots of interesting artists and were happy to make a few new friends. Our favorite was Wuxiaofei Dyson with his Mechanical Instrument. And many thanks to Jacco Van Der Kooij for inspiring the “Horse Pyramid” that received so much attention!
We’ve been busy making new designs for our FlipBooKit product. Here’s the new steampunk design featuring the “Waltz”. You can see more at our site.
So, I told Wendy to add some levity to that Jumping Bones animation.
Here’s what she came up with!
This week we’re testing some refinements to our process.
We built a new Muybridge motion study in a single box using some new materials and components.
Our work with Eadweard Muybridge’s motion studies continues with this combination:
a narrative that is witnessed through three boxed mechanisms.
We must be getting better at this. We had a 2-day deadline for submitting a piece to the Shoshana Wayne chain-letter show. So we conceived and built like crazed artists. The result was our second Muybridge tribute. We did most of the assembly at CRASH Space hackerspace in Culver City. In those last, weary hours, the moral support and camaraderie was a great boost. Many thanks to Steve, Matt, Chondra and Naim for the late night props.
